Welcome to the Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (NSW) Sydney Branch Inc, Australia's peak body for sporting shooters.
With more than 28000 members, we are not only the largest, but the most diverse shooting organisation in the state. We have 5 ranges with excellent shooting facilities and range staff to make your shooting experience safe, fun, and unique.
It’s SAFE because everyone involved with the sport takes the safety of all participants seriously. In fact, shooting is one of the safest sports around! We, as law abiding firearms owners, are regulated by some of the strictest gun laws, not only in Australia but worldwide.
It’s FUN because it’s a sport that allows anyone (over 12 of course) to participate on a level playing field; that makes it a great family sport. The shooting sports also offer a large variety of different disciplines that are challenging in many different ways and also encourage a strong sense of camaraderie amongst competitors.
And it’s UNIQUE because it’s one of the oldest Olympic sports and is a sport that you can enjoy in a group or as an individual. It doesn’t require a shooter to be the fittest, or the fastest or the tallest - everyone is welcome to participate. However, it does require skill, accuracy and consistency which makes for a very challenging sport.
The SSAA can help new shooters get involved in one of Australia's most challenging and exciting sports. Staff at our shooting ranges can help you through the membership process and conduct safety training to help you qualify for a firearms licence. Once you have been issued with your licence you are on the road to a pleasurable and rewarding sport.
Whether your interest is hunting, collecting, or target shooting - pistols, rifles or shotguns, the SSAA can help you.

2015 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING! SSAA Sydney Branch will be holding its AGM on Wednesday 24 June, 2015, in the Ballroom of the Bankstown Sports Club, opening at 6.30pm for a 7.30pm start. Nominations for the positions of Senior Vice President plus three ordinary Committee positions for three year terms are invited. Put this in your diaries and be sure to attend to ensure your vote and voice are heard. Click HERE for full details.
PERMANENT RANGE CLOSURE! Unfortunately after extended negotiation the licence holder for the Hurstville Range has come to the final decision that it does not wish to renew the access agreement under which the SSAA Sydney Branch used that range. All SSAA gear has now been removed, and there is no SSAA attendance book onsite. We would point out that while we did initially seem likely to reach a mutually acceptable agreement with the licence holder, claims that a few members behaved badly when they turned up at the range this year only to find it closed, seem to have tipped the balance against us.
HORNSBY RANGE CLOSURE! Hornsby Range will be closed to SSAA members this Sunday 3rd May due to the inclement weather, and also closed on Sunday 10th May as it's Mother's Day. The range will also be closed on the 24th and 31st of May due to a Rifle Club event on the main range (we can't access the 100m range while the main range is being used at greater than 300yds). We apologise for any inconvenience.
GREYSTANES NOW OPEN SUNDAY NIGHTS! We are pleased to announce that the Holroyd Rifle Range at Greystanes is now open on Sunday nights, from 6.30pm to 9.30pm. 22LR rifles with standard velocity ammunition only. Call Pam on 0417-834-386 for information.
DEER BUTCHERING & CAPING COURSE! These are being held on selected Sunday's with classes now available from February to July 2015. Held at the Silverdale Range, courses run for 6 hours and use locally harvested deer and live instruction to show you how to correctly process your own carcass. Spaces are limited and pre-payment is required, so reserve your place now! Please click HERE for full information.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Give back to your sport and become a Range Officer. Volunteers are needed at our Silverdale, Hornsby, Hurstville and Greystanes ranges. Contact your local Range Manager or E-MAIL our Executive Officer for information.
